James M. Clapper


James Clapper is president of Aladdin Temp-Rite, the North American leader in providing meal delivery systems for hospitals, schools, prisons and other institutions.  Dr. Clapper took this position after an academic career spanning 38 years.  He holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a Ph.D in business administration from UMass – Amherst.  He has taught on the faculties of Rensselaer, UMass, the University of South Carolina, Wake Forest University, Belmont University and Pacific Lutheran University.  While in academe, Clapper’s scholarly interests lay primarily in two areas; the application of decision sciences tools to problems in marketing and improvement of teaching/learning at the collegiate level.

Dr. Clapper held a variety of administrative positions during his academic career including service as dean of the school of business at two institutions –   Belmont University and Pacific Lutheran University.  Clapper also served a term as a member of the board of AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. 

Dr. Clapper has been active in the Decision Sciences Institute both at a regional (Southeast) and an Institute-wide level.  Clapper served several terms as a board member in the Southeast as well as a term as president of the region (1979).  He was recognized with the region’s Distinguished Service Award in 1984.  In addition to other contributions, Dr. Clapper’ service at an Institute-wide level includes a term as Program Chair for the annual meeting and two terms as a vice president of the Institute (1980-82 and 1983-84). Dr. Clapper was president of the Institute 1987-88 and was chosen for the Institute’s Distinguished Service Award in 1990.   Clapper was named a Fellow of the Institute in 1991.
